Book Review: A Love Song for Ricki Wilde by Tia Williams

"Maybe he's not someone to figure out. He's someone to experience."

This is one of my top reads of 2024 so far. The story follows Ricki Wilde, a young woman who decides to set her own path instead of following her family's dynasty. Originally from Atlanta, Ricki moves to Harlem after she meets Ms. Della, who offers to rent her the bottom floor of her brownstone. In Harlem, Ricki creates a new life and opens a flower shop. Everything seems normal until she meets Ezra.

A Love Song for Ricki Wilde is a captivating love story. Initially, I thought this would be just another romance novel, but I was pleasantly surprised with Williams's incorporation of magical realism.

I really enjoyed Ricki's determination to make a life for herself on her terms. Her social awkwardness was relatable and humorous. Throughout the book, I found myself really invested in her journey and rooting for her success.

Ezra's character was also interesting. I liked the chapters that focused on his life and his contributions to different musicians throughout history.

Overall, I loved this book and can see myself rereading it in the future.
